Winter storm number ?!

New York is under a blanket of white, with a mixture of browns and taupes adding to the roads. But the overnight storm didn't stop some from braving the commute to work. Thank heavens for boots, an Ipod with the soundtrack to "Country Strong" (which I am obsessed with) and a steady balance for my walk to work this morning. It was wonderfully peaceful.

My walk to work - took about an hour but was pretty on the way...

Even the flowers look happy in the snow

New Times

In an effort to start off my year in a new way, I bought myself a present. I opened my door yesterday to head to work and there it was outside my door. I proudly leaned down to see my name typed on the sticker with my address in bold type as my neighbor said good morning. He looked at me with envy, and commented on the front page story about the latest tragedy. I tucked the paper like a pro into my bag and exited the elevator with a confident stride. I was a girl who splurged on intellectual gaining. I read my New York Times from cover to cover. I circled various interests to come back to in red pen and tore out a few articles. I felt full of information all day. Ha! Let's see how long that lasts!

Day three...and I got through the entire paper! I must admit, I skipped over a few articles. OK, OK, maybe more than a few. But hey, at least I am helping to support the struggling newspaper business. And I now know about the latest controversy in the addition of a 13th astrological sign. Now if I could only figure out how to keep the ink off my shirt.

Moment of Silence

Flags at half-staff trigger something emotional in me. Walking to work this morning, everywhere I looked a flag reminded me of the fragility of life. Every day, lives are changed in an instant. At 11am this morning, a moment of silence is nationally recognized to honor those affected by the Arizona shooting. Have a peaceful day.

Snow day

Remember when you were in elementary school and you woke up to snow? While my firm never appears on the local news under "closings" and I curse all the way to work in my boots as the bus pulls away from the curb leaving me to shiver in the cold for the next one, I find myself smiling as my eyelashes catch a few snowflakes while I wait. I miss my snowsuit and making snow angels. Happy snow day from my office to yours!
