I am watching "Gidget" for the 1st time. Yes, the first time. I always knew about the movie, the iconic Gidget. But I didn't know why. Who knew that Gidget was her nickname? Midget + Girl = Gidget. One of the songs includes: although she's not king size, her ring size is just the right size for me...I think I found my movie. I would like to learn how to surf now. I urge you to go watch it. I mean, in the words of Gidge, "the ultimate".

I know I promised more about Africa and I will keep my word. I am hoping time will lend the words to capture the expanse of landscape, the sound of nothing and the moments around the camp fire. I miss the feeling of utter presence of being. Being with people who matter most. Without the distraction, without the noise. In the meantime, I celebrate a very special birthday girl today. This photo, taken just miles outside of Cape Town, reminds me of her. In the midst of busy life and amusing chaos, she emits the essence of this photo. Calm and serene, beautiful and breathtaking. Happy Birthday, Mums. You bring home to Africa and Africa home.
